Mirage (fiction)
Alex had won his way into my heart after we exchanged digits at a friend's birthday party in January 2023.
"Hello gorgeous." The mild baritone voice called out to me while I exchanged pleasantries with some familiar faces. Surely, my mid-thigh, slit peach gown, adorned with beautiful stones, was enough to cause whispers and wishes to saturate the atmosphere. Perhaps only Alex was bold enough to approach the dark-skinned beauty that I am. I loved his charisma, and he was one to spark and sustain conversations. Perhaps Alex could be called my New Year gift; his attention to everything that concerned me was overwhelming, only that I didn't know his time would reveal all he showered as a mirage.

The regular calls, chats, and check-ins soon began to dwindle as the months rolled by. My consolation was that perhaps work was hectic for him and he needed to meet some targets as a marketer. By April, I unconsciously took upon myself the responsibility of flaming to life the little fire that burned between us, at least so I thought. I had not wasted time to concede to Alex's request to start a relationship from the beginning; he was my dream man, perfect in all ramifications.
"I'll call you back, Davina." He had managed to reply with a text after several calls of trying to reach him on the phone, which he would not pick up. " My wait for his calls took forever, with no sign of him making any efforts. What hurt me the most was that I had sourced my happiness from Alex within the few months that we met. I searched for possible reasons why he changed, yet he seemed not to get a hold of any tangible ones. "Was my presence in his life choking, or did someone tell him something about me?" I thought to myself, despite the numbers not adding up. The gestures I enjoyed soon reverted, and I began to paddle the boat of our relationship.
Though I was tempted to embark on the three-hour drive to Alex's work station, I was not strong or ready to face what I dreaded. Days soon became weeks, and weeks turned to months. Alex had become a smoker and perhaps lived in history. While I took stock of my ambitions and projections for 2023, only Alex popped up at every instance of failed achievements.
Nobody knew the pain I went through. The once-jovial me had become a shadow of myself. A whole year had little to say as an achievement except having the breath and gift of life. I wiped off the tears that began to flow uncontrollably and made up my mind as regards the new year 2024. "I would draw my happiness from within," I said to myself as I wiped the tears off my face.

BEERfrom @pixresteemer for you. Enjoy it!Do you want to win SOME BEER together with your friends and draw the
BEERKING.Davina took things rather too fast. Though Alex could have done better in letting her know what he was up to, Davina was too quick to fall for Alex. Well, each experience comes with its unique lessons. She learned some lessons as she journey through 2024.
Thank you very much. You are right there. Some things like forever need proper accessment before commitment
Exactly...
I'm the "look well before you leap" type, I'll never be in Davina's shoes, but it's good to know she learned valuable lessons. Beautiful story by the way.
Thank you very much
Awesome post
Thank you very much

I think the problem with most ladies or would I say Davina was that she’s too quick to fall for Alex. But is it her fault though? Love happens unconsciously so I wouldn’t blame her. But she shouldn’t have put her all in it since Alex was new and he wasn’t giving her the attention. They say experience is the best teacher. Now she’ll know what and how to handle her feelings when another guy comes.
You're right, I'm of the opinion to choose friendship first before relationships. We get to know one another during this period at least
Davina was swept off her feet very quickly and dropped just as fast. There does not seem to be a connection from the heart. The focus seemed superficial and as a result ended in failure. Lessons of the heart are hard to learn but she will hopefully not make the same mistake in 2024.

Thank you very much. Davina surely learned the hard way. Hopefully in the new year, she would look well before leaping
When someone perceived as one's type shows interest it can be quite flattering. However flattery is not enough to sustain a meaningful relationship. Davina was heart broken but maybe there was no real connection between her and Alex. Maybe things went to swiftly. Many hard lessons for Davina to learn. I hope things will go better for her in 2024.

I hope so too, after all, we should not let mistakes repeat themselves

Where is Davina rushing too? Hahaha, you don't make a Haste decision when it comes to a lasting relationship. It's quite unfortunate and also a life lessons to her although this kind of love lesson is hard to learn
You're right. This kind of decisions require patience
Beautiful story.
This is where most ladies find themselves thereby learning the hard way.
Also, happiness can't be sourced from others, you will only get disappointed.
You're right ma. Thank you for your kind comment
It's fine to fall in love quickly but then we have to be sure to have some little pride so we can have some time to study the person our heart beats for.
If only Davina had knew better she would have been able to save herself but then it's never too late, at least she later found a way out for herself.
You're correct, our guards must not be let loose
That's right
