The Edited Error

It was a Thursday's evening when I returned from work around 7:00 p.m., terribly exhausted. I rushed to the bathroom for my bath and made a sharp concoction of rice as dinner, which I ate while being glued to my phone, reading articles here (hive) to cover up my lapses for the day.
I was on it, synchronising the whole process, when a call popped up on my phone; it was my boss.
My eyes quickly checked time while the phone was still ringing and it was already 10:00 p.m.
"What's making this man call me at this hour?" I muttered and watched as the call went off.

After it stopped, the call popped up again within 3 seconds. I knew it must be something important, so I picked up the call,"Hello sir"

"Hello Kingsleyy, I know it's late; I'm sorry about this. I need you to prepare the memo to be sent to the headquarters on or before 6:00a.m tomorrow. Once you're done, please send it to the email address, you don't need to forward it to me first because we don't have time anymore." My manager said in a fast tone, as if he were being pursued.

"Hmmmm, okay, sir, I've heard you," I replied to him after a deep sigh, and we ended the call.

I checked the time, and it was 10: 06 p.m., and I decided to do more on Hive before going to type the memo.

Still grinding on the hive, my body began to call for sleep, and I remembered that I hadn't typed the memo. I picked up my laptop to start typing with heavy eyes, but a thought came knocking,
"Go to sleep, wake up by 4:00 a.m to type this memo", I was about to concur when another thought came and knocked it down with,
"No, no, no, don't try that. What if you don't wake up by 4:00 a.m.?"

Omo! I didn't want to take the risk, so I began to type with my fingers staggering on the keyboard due to dizziness. I decided to adopt the habit of abbreviating and styling the words in short forms to make it quicker for me.

Words like 'third', 'another', 'schedule', 'speaking', and 'regard' were written as 'Ted', 'anda', 'sdule', 'spikin', 'rgad' respectively.

I was done typing the memo in the midst of my battle with dizziness. I began to edit, rewriting the abbreviated words. I was done. Yes, I was sure, before I dozed off into dreamland with the laptop on my lap.

I found myself awake at 5:58 a.m. I had slept off while working on the laptop.
"I was done with editing, yes, I was," my instinct quickly contemplated seeing the time at 5:58a.m.
I quickly picked up the laptop from where my legs had pushed it on the bed, awakened it from its hybernated state, and sent it to the email.

I was glad I beat the deadline.
I jumped on my bed again to catch up on some sleep before it get to 7:00 a.m.

Suddenly, my phone began to ring. I checked it and saw it was my boss. I picked it up to inform him that I'd sent the memo, but what welcomed my ear was shocking.
"What's the essence of that?" My boss asked in a loud tone as I answered his call.
"What do you mean sir?" I replied in a surprised tone.

"You must be out of your mind to ask me such a question. Check what you sent to headquarters. Mtchwwwwww!" He was angry and ended the call while I was shouting "sir... sir..."

Out of frustration, I took my laptop, opened it to check what I sent, and behold, it was all jagons that I sent; I didn't edit up to half of the abbreviated words.💔

"Jesus!" I exclaimed loudly.

I picked up my phone to call my boss, but his phone wasn't reachable; he has turned off his phone out of anger.

I knew I had messed up already because such a memo can't be sent twice because it's highly official. More importantly, it'll cause harm to the company.

I rushed to the bathroom, took my bath, dressed up, and zoomed off to my boss's house to amend my errors as well as to 'appease the gods'.

It was 6:25 a.m., and just as I expected, the gateman refused to let me in when I got there because it was not yet time to welcome people to the house.

"Oga, call him if you want to see him," the gateman bossily told me.

"His phone is off. Okay, could you please help me go and tell him that I'm at the gate?" I pleaded, and the gateman agreed.

He went inside and came back with my boss in a few minutes.

Upon seeing him, my heart flared up. I knew I would be fired.

"I like your reactions to this mistake; it shows that you really sorry." My boss said with somewhat devilish smiles on his face.

"You don't need to worry, I spoke with the CEO, and he gave me the privilege to edit the memo and send it back to them." He concluded while standing on the other side of the gate... which I don't know why he didn't allow me in.

I became dumbfounded
, "Could it be that he's trying to pull my legs?" My instict pondered.

"I know what you're thinking, but it's not it. Relax and go to work. See you at work," he said as he smiled and walked back to his house.

I was still dumbfounded, not knowing whether to believe what just happened.

After minutes of pondering, I decided to take my leave to the office. And yes, he really meant what he said; he really solved the issue on my behalf and be didn't behave abnormal when be reported at work that day

Thanks for reading.

Sometimes we make costly mistakes that can damage a lot of things if not properly taken care of. I'm glad your boss rescued the situation and there were no negative issues as a result of your mistake. It also takes an understanding boss to let go and not relieve you of your job. This was a captivating fictional story from you. Good luck with the contest!

I was reading and eager to know what would happen after the mail was sent. Working while tired can be detrimental for one's career. The natural instinct are not sharp so checking and double checking is not thorough. I am happy that the fictious you did not get fired.
