A day to myself - my plan
Life is full of ups and downs. We wake up daily to work for survival and the journey is not smooth especially in a developing country like Nigeria.
For almost two decades that I have been following the political leadership of my country, I have remained on the side of critics. Successive governments claimed to have done their best including a claim by the present regime that he was doing his best. Their best hasn't been enough so to say. There is a gap between the leader and the followers.
A few years ago, I had a student whose father was a Senator. During a Mathematics class, I made an illustration of someone earning 150000 Naira as salary to teach the students ratio and percentages. Immediately I mentioned 150000 Naira, the boy raised his hand to ask a question. He was curious to know how someone would work for a whole month and he would be paid a paltry sum of 150000 Naira, an amount that he spent for himself in each of the regular family outings. I tried a lot to explain to him that the majority of Nigerians don't earn that amount in a month. He was short of words. That's a boy in JSS 2.
If that kind of person emerges as a leader tomorrow, he won't believe that the reported level of poverty is real. This would widen the gap between him and the people.
As a result of this lacuna, if I have a whole day where I could do anything, I would request for a meeting with the President of Nigeria. I believe he is not being told the sufferings that Nigerians are going through now.
I will try to prepare a report with interviews with jobless youths, retirees, artisans, students, market men and women in order to present to him in practical terms. I don't want to continue with lamentations that wouldn't change anything. I want to talk to the person on whose table the policy direction of the government is signed.
We have leaders today that don't know what it is to be held at a spot by bad roads because they've never experienced it since birth. I want to be convinced that I tried my best to salvage the situation. There are many topics that I would discuss with the President.
After doing that, I would schedule a meeting with the joint session of the lower and upper arms of the legislative assembly. I have a separate package for them in the form of presentation being the body that makes laws for us as a Nation.
If we are to witness progress in equitable distribution of wealth and fight against corruption, their cooperation is very vital. I know many people have done this in the past without any visible change at the end but I wish to add my voice. It could make a difference.
Before the end of the day, I would launch a human rights radio station. Abuse of human rights is prevalent in Nigeria and whenever I come across any case, it aches my heart. I would like to launch about six branches spread across each geopolitical zone. Some human rights abuses bring tears to my eyes when I hear about them.
When we have people that can help fight for the rights of the vulnerable, the country would be better for it.
Finally, I would rest and eat my favorite meal while I get prepared to oversee the radio stations in subsequent days.

These are deeper thought and it shows how you are so concerned about the welfare of the citizens in your country. I believe the president knows the rate of sufferings many are going through but gathering practical evidence sounds great. Yes, many have used this approach in the past but it's nice that you add your voice, who knows it could be heard

Wanting to spend the day with the President and Congress of your country shows you genuine concern for your nation. Having a radio show to address human rights issues would give people a platform to air their greivances and hopefully help their voices to be heard. Taking care of other is admirable but lovely that you would treat yourself to a nice meal whilst doing so. It would be a day well spent indeed.
