Arrested robbers.

The summer heat was huge and as a result, we had to pack our curtains to the side for proper ventilation.

I went to bed relatively early but sleep wasn't forthcoming. My parents and siblings were fast asleep while I was lying down reflecting on the many issues confronting me. I graduated from the University for more than three years without a job and the effects were weighing me down. When I think of my aging parents and my younger siblings' education, I realize that I had to find a way to start making some income to help the situation.

I thought about investment since a job wasn't forthcoming.

"Can I do any meaningful business without a financial war chest?" I doubted it.

I was at a crossroad of what to do when I came across a novel titled Making money from zero capital. It was a free online book and once I saw the title, I downloaded it immediately. What a timely book.

I am the kind of person that loses sleep over any task I am passionate about achieving. I stood up from my lying position to pick my phone from the point where I plugged it to the power source. I was determined to finish the book in order to follow the author's template and see if my situation would change.

I barely opened the page where I stopped earlier when I saw the ray of touch light through my wide opened window.

"Are these notorious gangs intruding into our compound to rob again?"

Before I could finish imagining what was playing out, I saw someone jump down from the fence. It was then obvious that a gang of armed robbers were around. I quickly spread my curtains and ran to my father to inform him of what was happening.

"Dad, thieves have entered the compound."

My dad stood up immediately and picked his phone to get in touch with the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the area. At that point, it wasn't safe to make phone calls as the robbers may become violent if they are aware that a call is being made to security. He sent a text message to the DPO.

Our experience with the bad boys who
roam around with the only job of robbing the people who are sweating hard to put food on their family's table, made the residents of my street to meet with the DPO previously. Arrangements were put in place in the meeting for a team of police to switch into action if they ever make such an attempt again.

About ten minutes later, with the thieves already in the next apartment robbing and harassing the occupants, a team of rapid response squad of the police showed up to salvage the situation.

I was in my room praying against the repeat of the experience we had a week earlier when our house was the target. I was in prayers when suddenly, the sound of gunshots rented the air. We were in a state of confusion for the almost twenty minutes that the exchange of fire lasted.

After some time, the sound of gunshots stopped and there was a relative calm in the compound.

My dad's phone beeped and I ran to check with the intention of putting it off.

"This is not the best time for any phone to ring or beep."

I picked the phone and saw a notification for a message from the DPO. I took the phone to my dad immediately. He read the message and said the DPO was outside the house waiting for him.

"So, this man led this operation by himself." My dad remarked as he went out to meet the DPO.

My father called on other neighbors and they met the handcuffed armed robbers sitting on the ground with their weapons beside them.

Our neighbor's wife, who was looking at everything from their apartment, ran out and grabbed one of the robbers with an attempt to hit him. She was stopped by the policemen.

"You threatened to kill me because the money you got from me is small. You slapped me despite begging you. You are wicked." The woman couldn't hide her emotions as she narrated how she was tormented by that particular member of the dreaded gang before the arrival of police.

Despite being almost midnight, everyone in the neighborhood was outside discussing and celebrating in groups that the notorious gang had finally been nabbed to answer for their crimes. It was a big sigh of relief.

The police instructed them to get into their vehicle and they were driven to the station for profiling and further investigation.

"We may call on you to help us with some prosecuting evidence as the investigation progresses." The DPO stated.

All of us were full of praise to the police as they drove off. I wasn't in the mood to read again. I kept my novel back in the shelf and went to lie down to sleep.

It must have been a scary experience hearing gunshots and your home being target. Hopefully no one was hurt. With the robberies in your neighbourhood-I can imagine that you were not in the mood to read anymore. Hopefully with the robbers arrested there will be no more theft and harassment.

Those people are actually heartless, thank God the police were available to salvage the situation. The system can actually work

If majority are ready to make it work, it indeed can work. We need a sane society.

Wow. I am glad you were awake at that time. And seeing the DPO came out himself is really awesome.

Having the DPO respond to the text message and took action immediately was a great one. I wish it's always like this in my country. The experience with the robbers were terrifying, I can imagine it but the arrival of the DPO calmed the raging storm...of course you would lose an appetite to continue reading your novel after such an experience
