Nigeria My Country - Less Rant, More Positivity

(Edited)

Oh how excited I've been about this prompt being announced thanks to the organizers who kept giving sneak peaks in the city to get us all excited for it, it's finally out and my brain was sent to do some extra thinking than it usually does. The topic for this prompt isn't a funny one but somehow I've been smiling while thinking of how to go about my entry, you'll get to know why as you read on.

Before that, feel free to share your view on the contest topic and I hope to read your entry to cry or laugh with you, yeah, I understand 🥲 The "not so funny but really interesting" topic? Do check the contest post for it or don't because I'll give my answers anyways and that is what matters.

To be honest, if I was asked those questions like two weeks ago, I'd give my usual response which would have been so full of rants and talks about life being unfair to me lol. But something happened last week while I was chatting with friends on discord and it literally changed everything I had been thinking of my country for the good, yeah, I want to believe it's for the good.

Nigeria is my country, my homeland and the only country I've ever lived in... I don't know as much as I do about my country for other countries even though I've seen movies and documentaries about other countries. My country, Nigeria is blessed (I've heard this sentence like a billion times growing up and up till now).

Since after the brain and heart reset I underwent about my country, I've been feeling more proud that I'm one of my country's citizens. Why? So many reasons but allow me give you my top three.

  • Our Resilience

No, I'm not sure I'm one of the resilient ones but literally every human born of a Nigerian parents is resilient in nature lol. They have this syndrome to "survive" no matter how hard it gets and one way they do that is to work harder, be more intentional and stay focused. In my whole life, I've seen more Nigerians who are bent on achieving their goals than Nigerians who lazy about for anything to fall into their hands to eat.

  • Our Culture

I guess there's no way I can writing about a whole country (I mean, my beloved country 🤧) without sharing how proud I am about our culture. Our culture include the languages, dressing styles, foods, rites and festivals... I feel that we do it way better (Hey Ghanaians, I mean no offence 🤭). I'm proud of the fact that we are living together even with the vast diversity among us, I've witnessed a lot of amazing relationships between two far apart tribes... It's simply inspiring. Ahhh, I'm sure you don't want me to go into writing about my pride in our foods right now 😎 just imagine!

  • Our name

Yeah, you read that correctly... I am very sure there are a lot of countries doing way better than Nigeria in economy but don't have their names resounding loud bells ring in many other countries as much as Nigeria does to other country. What do I mean? My beloved country is among the most popular countries, I could even trick myself to say the whole world is aware of my country and what goes on inside. Yes, I'm proud of that fact even if we are known in some places as a not so cool country (at least I do know we are cooler than they think we are).

I could go on and on about how proud I am about my country but I'd like to share an important aspect I thought about when I read one of the questions of the prompt... Do you think your country has all it takes to help you develop as a person?

If it doesn't, how did I become who I am today? Of course, my dad isn't as wealthy as Dangote (the richest man in Nigeria) but then, I look at this way... Dangote is a Nigerian and he's so wealthy inside the Nigeria that many think they can't develop in. Although development have different phases and one of it is inward development (mentality). While I think my country doesn't have all it takes, I also think it gives enough amount of motivation for any to fight harder in developing themselves for the better.

I am trying my best to work on myself regardless of the country I found myself, and I'm also working on being more resilient like my fellow Nigerians 😂 these my people are too hardworking, they could be anything if they want to be... So much for personal development really lol.

And to the last question, If you could leave to another country, would you?

pexels-photo-4405389.jpeg
Source

Yes I would and never come back (that would have been my response if this question had come in last two weeks 😂) but like I had said at the beginning of my post, that thought changed after I had a thought provoking chat with my friends on discord.

Germany didn't tell the whole truth of what it takes to live there and those who left their country to Germany are realising that they actually preferred to live in their own country

I'm just using Germany as an example here, don't attack me lol. My point is "What is the major reason I'm wanting to leave my country for another?" I don't know for others but it's to have more money and live comfortably while I explore by travelling when I'm free. I can definitely do all that if I remain in Nigeria. I just have to make more money, have a good life here and explore the world from my comfort in my country, Nigeria.

Nigeria is a beautiful place to live, strive, and succeed. We are just not looking hard enough. Instead we wallowing in finger pointing and passing blames.

Individually, we have what it takes to move the country forward.

Good Morning, our resilience merit 🤓

Your first picture makes it look like Nigeria is beautiful, is it?

I would love to visit Nigeria someday if it's as beautiful as that 😍.

What a great way to start the day...this is really amazing.
Yes! Nigeria isn't all that heavenly but guess what, the people in it and what the country offers makes it a very good one to stay.
Glad to read this

I'm glad you agree with me, because I may come off as abnormal to those who are dying to leave the country lol

Ironically, yes, Nigeria is very beautiful 😅.
But true true, we are beautiful, we just need a good governance and things will take a turn around.

Nah! I would also love to explore other countries but I will like to come back after a while

Nigeria is a country I have ever lived in too and is also a country I have seen that can endure any situation that comes their way and even make fun of the situation no matter how bad.

From your prompt writing. Nigeria is a good place to live in @merit.ahama no doubt about that.

Being born a typical Nigerian creates an indepth impression about who I've come to be.

O yea! You see, resilient, hard work and many more qualities you mentioned ain't anything distant from being true. Am sure and I could see those experiences of yours displaying in the write up.

One thing is sure, no matter de matter, we shall all survived it. Mind you, anywhere a Nigerian sees his/herself its easy survival compared to others from another region. You know what I mean?

In any case, you did well on this. Weldon dear.
Catch up more

#cheers🥂

Haha see you just summarized all I've been saying in these encouraging words of yours 😁

I'm proud to be a Nigerian regardless of everything else... I mean, I can't be proud to be a lover of USA... It's not my country so I've got to love the one I belong to by birth.

Thanks for always stopping by Wizy ❤️

You should have seen the heavy pleasant smile on my face when I saw the first two points. Resilience and Culture.

During the end sars protest, my sister told me that this generation of Nigerian youths are the most resilient group of people she’s ever seen. I couldn’t agree less with her. The fact that you guys risked your lives to strive and struggle against OPPRESSION which is the greatest evil, that alone tells me everything. I respect all of you for that fight alone 🫡

As for the culture aspect, I think the whole world Nigeria is only second to Ghana. The way of life is vastly diverse and beautiful.

When my pepper finally rests and I put on my unapologetic nomadic shoes, Nigeria will be my first foreign destination.

Before they burry me, I would love to see the beautiful sunrise in Kano, Warri, Gwagwalada (precisely during the Ibeji festival), Ikorodu and Lagos.

Haha I want to see it 😁
Our resilience could make someone smile hehe

The fact that you guys risked your lives to strive and struggle against OPPRESSION

I wasn't among those most resilient ones but I agree with you and your sister, they did really leave a mark with that activity they carried out.

When my pepper finally rests and I put on my unapologetic nomadic shoes

That should happen already, we are impatient to see you exploring those funny sides of Nigeria you've just mentioned 😂

Hmm, you and Olujay seem to have the same perspective on staying in Nigeria which I reckon with. I said I wouldn´t want to leave another country permanently when I can have enough money, to travel and explore different places. The only reason I would want to leave is the education system here in Nigeria is bad. I would want to do my Masters's abroad because of the real-life practicals I would engage in which while studying for my degree here, I didn´t get.

No violence today, I come in peace 🤸‍♀️🚶‍♂️

Oh really? I should go read his entry soon

Yeah, going out to study is the best for me too... Naija school is stress on it's own before you even start studying the course itself 😅

Peace maker, well done

Oh mine I love your approach to the prompt the truth is we might have a lot of challenges as a developing nation but that will never take out the fact that we are great people, with great culture, loving, and caring. We are a survival 💪.

I'm curious though about that discussion that changes your mindset. You want to tell?😅

Glad you find agreement with my approach.... As for what changed my mind is the fact that a Nigerian outside the country kept laying emphasis on valuing what you've got.

We don't know what we would meet out in another country, not every person wishing to leave Nigeria should really go... My thoughts after thinking.

The thing is no where is easy, and we have a lot of things very easy over here. If the leadership is great, we might just be living in paradise.

The resilience of the people, the culture and achievements by others such as Dangote are certainly motivating factors and reminders of the positive sides of your country. As you pointed out the grass is not always greener elsewhere. Home is usually where the heart is.

Well said, we both agree on that very well. I'd rather make a comfortable life here than struggle over and over to get out of this country for another that I'm not sure of 🙂

This is an interesting response, Nigeria is a wonderful nation only that it's bring driven by the wring people, we should be enjoying a lot.

I love your approach to the topic . You see, there are some conversation with people that have a way of shaping our mentality for good. Is good to know that you had a wider insight about traveling through your chat with friends in discord.

Most Nigerians are resilient including you and that's why we always survive every dramas that the government present to us. Our culture is one of the things to be proud of... Nigeria has got so many things to be proud of , now imagine if we have great leadership on the seat. It can only get better.

Our country Nigeria is rich in Everything .Nigeria is a giant of African, we don't have steady power supply.we don't have good hospital, quality Education. We have all it takes to make our country a better place but we lack competent government.
Thank God you and I survived what they put us through, so many people died trying to survive it. How long are we going to continue like this. No matter how much money I made here , I will not be happy when I still see my people suffer.
