I think you've hit on something I've been thinking about for a long time. The problem isn't really that Hive is too antisocial. It's that too much of the behavior here is optimized around the reward mechanism rather than the thing the mechanism was supposedly meant to encourage.
I've always thought Hive and Blurt are far more interesting as a semi-permanent record of people's work than as places to farm votes and rewards. If someone writes something genuinely worth reading, builds something useful, documents something they actually know, or simply leaves behind a good record of what they've been doing, the fact that it exists on-chain is interesting to me. Whether it made $0.02 or $200 is secondary.
And I think that's why the comment-farming thing bothers me more than the generic “engagement” problem. It's not just annoying. It's people optimizing for the metric instead of producing anything worth engaging with.
So yeah, your criteria make a lot of sense to me. I'd much rather stumble across someone whose work I'd still read if Hive rewards disappeared tomorrow.
Exactly! And that's one of the main reasons I write. I haven't been writing so much lately, but over the years I've written so many great writeups and what matters the most when I think about them is that they're onchain, packaged and accessible at will.
I've gone through my blog a billion times to retrieve posts to explain something to someone, to show people I want to impress, I've used it as a portfolio in the past, etc.
The $ matters too, but this other thing is the bomb 💣😃.
