The english expression comes to mind, "Don't look a gift horse in the mouth". One should always be grateful when a gift is received even if it is not to our liking. After giving her bags before, you might have thought that you knew her taste. Her reaction sounds unpleasant as she made you feel terrible when you were being kind. However, it is a clear reflection of her character - not yours.
