Parish church of Santo Ippolito.

Good evening hivers, please make up for my absence but these days I was doing spring cleaning and I felt little inspiration to make my posts. Furthermore, the change of season doesn't help my already bad mood and I would do nothing but sleep, however today I want to talk to you about a small village that I really liked, I went there on Monday with my husband at his suggestion, it was a place where he used to ride his bicycle when he was young, this village is located on the hills of Vernio, a city located on the edge of Prato, the city adjacent to mine about an hour's journey away, unfortunately this area was hit a lot by landslides and flooding during the flood period in Tuscany and many roads are still unusable. However, knowing my love for churches, my husband took me to this small parish church in the village of Sant'Ippolito, a small town inhabited by about fifty people, much appreciated in the summer for its cool climate. The parish church occupies the main space of the town and is really beautiful to visit. The church is ancient, dating back to before the Middle Ages but rearranged in the twelfth century, it remains today one of the oldest in the area with still an original part in sandstone, a portico with eighteenth-century columns and a tower added later.

As soon as we arrived we were immediately struck by the beauty of the parish church but also of the hills below which I photographed while we were in the car. We first visited the outside of the parish church and were amazed by a small Madonna located in a lawn in front of a terrace with such a beautiful and relaxing view behind it that it seemed like the perfect place for the statue of the sacred mother. A small idyllic and spiritual place, then obviously we visited the portico with a part dedicated as a votive monument to the fallen of the First and Second World War, a sad memory with not only soldiers but also families decimated during the round-ups. However, the view from the porch was really very beautiful and relaxing. Then we entered the church, with a simple and quite poor but still fascinating style, with a lot of wood, some sporadic frescoes and an altar with a large wooden Jesus surrounded by a wall of polychrome marble. It was an interesting and enjoyable little visit.
