A sign in the sky.

We have a tremendous fire here, but thankfully rain signs appeared.
318.jpg

Yes, those are real flames in the mountain forests and all life has been evacuated.

They almost had the fire under control that started on Wednesday, but then last night a storm strength wind arrived that reignited the fires and the wind spread them far and wide. Some 200 plus firefighters are on the scene and the battle will continue through the night.
The fire is dangerously close to residential areas and thankfully the tenants have been evacuated.

I want to show you the pastel scenes on the outskirts of the fire and so come and read the good news sign with me.

Finally you can see the fire clouds approaching the residential areas!

All beautiful pastel colors thank you, but did you see the sign?
Look at photo number 5, the halo around the sun photo.
It was clearly telling me that rain will fall very soon and rain is what we desperately need to avoid very expensive damages.
I am not joking here as this is a serious situation, but the old farmers knew that a sun halo was what they called a "bad weather" sign. So I was taught that and I also believe it. Let's see if I was right.

Yeah we've been getting a massive amount of rain out here and currently at the beginning of Summer we just started getting flooding levels of rain.

Past couple of years have been absolutely brutal with forest fires. The year before last I had to go personally volunteer because the governor of Oregon was going to allow the forest fire to continue to burn and had pulled back a bunch of the firefighters.

Well even the local community decided that they were going to fight back and somehow I ended up in one of their volunteer teams helping out.

And that Halo around the sun picture, we had months of that....

Sending prayers up for all them animals out there.

Talking about floods this year thus far we had tremendous losses frim landslides in the KZN province and entire houses were washed away. 400+ deaths.

Some of our Saffer fire crews were sent over to Canada to help with the fires there and I am glad to see that you were also involved in your country. Why would the governor allow the fires to burn?

So I take it that you also believe in the halo as a rain sign and it has never failed me.

Thank you for the prayers.

That Halo is just showing how much smoke is in the air. After a while that Halo will dim down to the point where even the Sun is just a light colored disc in the sky and then it disappears.

And the government wanted even more to burn as well as would put out alerts when it was the best time for the crazy people to go out and set fires in the forest around our areas and a bunch of them were caught however even more continued to light fires.

One of those fires nearly ended up burning me to death while on the volunteer crew because two kids decided they wanted to be arsonist.

Pretty crazy world we live in.

Oh yes, the sun will dim the halo, and just as well that the halo is so very far above the clouds. The ring is formed by icicles in the air that results from the coming rain. At times the rain can even be 2 days away and I hope that it will be sooner now.

We also have a struggle here with arsonists and it seems that it is a never ending story.
Glad that you survived that dangerous prank by the kids and I hope that they got a good wallop.

Those pranks are lethal. It's scary at the crazy people that do this and destroy cities and homes.

And those kids got chased by the locals. The locals chasing them were country folk with knowledge of the land and the guns they had. I doubt the arsonists escaped capture by assault rifle toting rednecks.

Which I ended up with an armed guard to protect me with an assault rifle at all times. I was highly happy about that. And at least one sometimes I had 2 or 3 guards. Half of our workforce had to become security to protect those working.

The common people have a massive ability to help. I cut and opened up the roads and also we were hitting spot fires and putting them out.

Best tool besides chainsaws were huge containers of water in the back of pickup trucks and a water pump.

We did it. It was hard and crazy. But the town was protected by the locals working around the clock to save their homes.

Sounds like good material for a book my friend.
I mean that it is a crazy situation that you mention here. There is something similar going on here, as the medics that go out to attend to patients are being robbed at gun point.
So now the have police guards that go out with them.

You have described a titanic battle here and it just goes to show how valuable a united local force can be.

Well done and have some !PIZZA

It's a good thing that all of my adventures are getting documented on the blockchain so maybe one day that can all happen....

Good to know that the situation is under control. Yes, I agree with the sun thing, we also notice the weather signs like that.

Not yet fully under control and we are anxiously waiting for the help of the rain.
Thank you for the agreement about the sun halo and as I said elsewhere, that sign has never failed me.

I popped out now late night here and only some light clouds are floating around.
Maybe tomorrow or definitely on Monday it will rain my friend. Let's just hope that in the meantime the damages will not be too severe.

Here's a quick moon shot that I took now.

It seems to be the same every year - huge fires are burning all down and kill people and animals. This is so bad, my friend - after floodings there are forest fires - your country is so beautiful but so dangerous at the same time.

I do really hope that your predictions come true and rain will extinguish the fire.

Good post and the photos are great as always, I love the second one most 😊

Good evening Hannes,

this is Africa my friend, beautiful and at the same time extremely violent. They have not established the source of the fire yet and I hope that it is not arson.

Have a look at this!

I just showed in my second post the rain clouds starting to gather. so hopefully we pray that the rain will start tonight.

Thank you and glad that you liked the photos my friend.

Cheers and thanks.

Good evening Zac,

amongst other criminals, arsonists belong to the worst in my eyes.

I do hope that the rain will start and extinguishes the fire.

Hope the rain arrives to douse those flames, cold weather should land today if weatherman has this cold front timing right.

Halo around the sun an excellent indication, thanks for update in amazing photography.

Sad to hear two fire fighters caught in flames and injured, such perilous work not highly paid!

Rain has now brought relief to your region with fires, news this morning.... "HEAVY RAIN which could lead to localised flooding over the Cape Metropole, western areas of Cape Winelands and Overberg Districts." you looking at over 100mm in places, yikes! No reprieve for Port Elizabeth where the dams will not fill up, rains will only be light up there.

Now how do you read my mind Lady Joan ?
I just wrote that one day we worry about the fires and the next day we have to worry about floods.
Big rain falling here for the whole day and tomorrow it will continue.
There is a notice out that PE has now reached day zero with no water.
