If you live in Nigeria you will be able to testify how spending money for internet data can be really frustrating. Imagine spending $3 every two days for data, that means you spent $45 in a month, which is really annoying because the data is not always enough. Internet is very essential in our lives, it’s something we can not live without, we just have to have access to internet. Nigeria is one country you can do monthly internet subscription 3 times in a month because they are always limited. Most people especially the youths are always lamenting on how they would have saved a lot of money if they weren’t subscribing for internet data.

This is just like the cigarette concept, people judge smokers for spending a lot of money on cigarettes and suddenly become finial advisors. Giving people details on how rich they would have been if they quit smoking, but the ironic part of it is that these people giving this advise don’t smoke. So how much have they saved from not smoking?

All these is psychological, humans and the way they handle money is very psychological. People just assume that people are poor because they spend money on their guilty pleasure than investing. But what of people that don’t have guilty pleasure to spend money on? Have they been able to save a lot? But do you believe that you can have a guilty pleasure, spend money on it and still invest your money and make more money while being an addicted smoker? It’s just a matter of the Mind, we spend money on food a lot and yet we can still afford to invest money in other things.

You just have to be extremely focused and self disciplined to achieve whatever you want to achieve regardless, no matter what your guilty pleasure is. If you decide to dwell on the idea that spending money on your guilty pleasure is the reason you are poor, or broke and stop spending the money on your guilty pleasure or rather quit your guilty pleasure, you will realize that not much difference will happen in your life because the money will be diverted else where for spending. Except you learn to earn higher, because even if you decide to divert your spending to something else, you attention will be so focused on the new thing.

Forinstance if you decide to start saving money you used for cigarette or start investing the money, your attention will be so focused on the money that you find yourself running towards the money whenever you have the slightest need for the money. Because, it’s all psychological, the financial people always make use of this cigarette concept without explaining why.

Hehehe. I think the bottom line is that as long as you really want something you would almost always find a way to keep money aside for it. It is the effort to keep money aside for it that is the biggest factor rather than how much they would have saved if they weren't spending on that thing, because the urge to save is usually not as strong as your urge for that thing, keeping money aside for saving would become harder as a result.

You catch my drift?

you are so right and i think most people understand this but they fail to admit it, if you don't use the money for your guilty pleasure it will be used for something else and that something else still won't make you great or a better person..

Just to know how to use your money wisely, it requires knowledge and that is why there is this term call financial literacy. Some can earn big bucks but they still end up poorer.
