We are considering a home a/c for those nights where it gets hard to sleep due to the heat. So far there are not too many of those, so it may not be a high priority for now. We have solar and a battery so running costs would not be too bad. Our house is fairly well insulated, but others may suffer more.

I've worked in plenty of offices with a/c that can make it more bearable, but I object when people want it icy cold inside when it is not too bad outside. That is a waste of energy. All those a/c units in a city will warm up the local air and make things worse so they should be used sensibly. I saw some US politician suggested people raise the temperature setting a bit and they got called a socialist, or worse. I think those in an office may not consider the impact so much as they are not paying directly.
