Goldenrod Identification - Avoiding The Toxic Look Alikes

Goldenrod is an edible and medicinal wildflower that blooms in late summer to early fall. In the region where I live, it has few real lookalikes, so it is a pretty beginner-friendly plant to forage for. However, in other regions of the US, highly toxic look alikes that very closely resemble goldenrod do exist.
