Neoxian City: Writing Prompt #11 (REALIZATION)
REALIZATION
Reality, once again, dawned on me... Worse than I imagined
Recollection of memories we once had, so bittersweet
Those precious moments when you swept me off of my feet
My brain is waking me up, but my heart's still in denial
Beating ever so loudly as if shouting it's the only thing that's primal
But it's clear as day that the final moment together already came
My blood boils every time I'm reminded that it was nothing but a game
If only I have known sooner, I would have played my cards well
That giving it my all would bring me to this hell
I would have been wiser and would have listened to my brain
That in the end, it would be me who would be in pain
The tears I've already shed were hard evidence
Yet, I continued despite knowing the consequence
Now, I no longer have anything; not even a single tear left
Drained... empty... emotionless... hopeless... I'm bereft
Though left with nothing, there's still something I could do
Because my life is about me... and never about you
You were just a chapter that has ended; an episode that's now over
My story continues... especially now that I'm sober
It took me a while, but I have finally arrived
I needed to go through all of that in order to survive
I tried... I failed... I learned... And I'm ready to try again
This time much better and stronger than I've ever been
As the sun rose on the horizon, it became clear what had happened
That in every aspect of our lives, we are the captain
It's not about avoiding the failures nor the heartaches
It's about gracefully experiencing them and learning something from these mistakes
Then, we can readily face our life head on; no matter what it takes

This is beautiful, I think at one point in time, we do realize that some things we wanted weren't meant for us and that is okay. We just need to be stronger, be wiser, learn from the experience, and move on.

The rising sun shed a light on the reality which must have been wonderful. To step back and realise that we are masters of our own life and that it is not dependent on anyone else, is empowering. As your poem mentions, life must be lived and it will come with ups and down which will only strengthen us as it teaches us lessons to be taken on board as we continue on our journey.
