A game that marked an era

I still remember the first time I played Commandos. Presented by one of those friends who get lost along the way, the one at Pyro Studios turned out to be one of those experiences that mark you for life. Not only because I'm still repeating that of "okidoki", also because it's one of those games that come back to my memory from time to time with pleasant memories.

As then, Commandos 2 HD Remaster is a game that asks for tempering and, often, to try trial and error until you find the ideal strategy for each situation. What he once remembered as a rather desperate experience at times, has proved to be the most logical and well measured here.

The danger of nostalgia

After almost 20 years with the game in my head, the only thing that worried me about his return was to dirty that memory and, like so many other times in similar cases, to assert that maxim that ensures that the games are better in our memory of what They really were. ¿Would nostalgia have played me a trick again?

Everything stays as your brain kept it in a drawer

Nothing to fear, at least if you have a good time with him and married his approach in the past. Commandos 2 HD Remaster lives up to its name with all of the law. Which means that beyond graphic improvement, sound and loading times, everything remains as your brain kept it in a drawer.

The only difference at the playable level with respect to the original is limited to the addition of some more information and control guidance during the first missions. Ideal to remember how far their limits reached and refresh the different actions available for some of the main characters.

With an eye on what the games are today, it ends up being inevitable to see him asperities that you wouldn't have noticed two decades ago. Commandos 2 HD Remaster is still a rough game in control and a maze of keyboard shortcuts that, in addition to being very necessary to play comfortably, is a dictionary waiting to be learned.

Missing more contextual actions that save you work by performing an action or other developments that the medium has given us throughout this time. Impossible not to see, for example, how good it would be for you to enjoy an action wheel based on the items you store in your inventory, for example.

Nor would it have been wrong to polish the precision of your control or add a 360-degree camera rotation instead of limiting yourself to the four cardinal points that you maintain both indoors and outdoors. The typical improvements in the quality of life that come to mind after having seen year after year how video games progressed.

It is true that in that case we would already be talking more about remake than remastering, but it is one of those cases in which your imagination flies alone every time you miss something. The important thing is that the formula still works just as well as in its day. And even more than all that, we will no longer have to miss Commandos again.
