Life Of A Salary Earner In Nigeria | Side Hustle Is Compulsory

The state of things in my country Nigeria is really tiring, gone were those days when we are always happy and curious about what the future holds for us, if anyone ask a typical Nigerian then a question about what he wish to do after school, they will always give the I will look for a job and earn salaries, we all thought that it is that easy, it was easy back then, things were that hard, dollar rate wasn't this high so most goods were really affordable, anyone earning around 50k-100k salary then are called big men and women because after they remove most of their bills, they will still have enough to cater for other things.

Now it felt like a dream and look like we are close to the end of the world, things are now hard and not affordable, salary now look like shit because it can only sort out little things, everything things keep increasing in price but salaries remain stagnant. This one of the tweet that caught my attention today on twitter now X, like the salary of a graduate and the actually primary bills without even calculating the secondary bills that are on their way, even 100k isn't an average salary, an average salary for a typical nigerian is around 50k and I know some people that earn less than that monthly, and at times I always have this feeling it isn't about what they are paid, it is about been able to survive. I remembered the day a friend of mine who just finish his Nysc service and was really happy to secure a job, on a norms, getting a good job that pay around 80k+ is very hard and you will need connections most times to even secure that kind of job with lot of stress embedded in it. So he was happy he got picked after the interview and this workplace is really far from home the cost of transport is around 1500 to and fro every day.

I was happy for him though to the extend that I sat down it a pen and paper to analyse how the monthly salary will disappear and to be honest I was shocked because it look as if he is working for free without having any gain at the end of the day. Just like the calculations I saw on twitter, Imagine earning 100k and spend this much, living in Lagos normally isn't easy and it is almost the same in other states, imagine all this expenses and only having nothing up to 4$ as your balance, when will you start saving or have a solid investment if you have your job as the only source of income. Many even try to have a side hustle just to boost things up but they always find it really hectic, Imagine going to work around 6-7am in the morning and returning home around 5-6pm if there is no traffic on the way, yet stressed, how will you even focus on the other side hustle you have, this things have eaten deeply and we all are just acting fine
