Festive season shoemaking items shopping at the market

avatar

It's the festive season, and as we all know, there will be a lot of shopping and purchasing of items, so just like everyone else, I paid a visit to the market, but not with the aim of buying food items or attire, but to buy as much footwear-making material as possible that will meet the demands of my customers and as well as have extra in case an impromptu order shows up.

Every festive season I usually have loads of footwear orders to work on, and this usually keeps me occupied during Christmas, but since I got my new job, my older apprentice and a young guy I employed have been the ones running the affairs of the store. But when I traveled home to celebrate Christmas, I decided to stop by the store and help them out, and that's why I help them with shopping for materials.

When I got to the shoe material market, the place was filled up with different shoemakers who wanted to purchase different items. I brought out my list and started picking each one out gradually, and here are some of the things I purchased and their prices.

  • 6 foreign sole ₦12,000
  • 2 Birkenstock sole ₦4,600
  • 3 pairs of Brown leather ₦1,800
  • 3 pair of Black Leather ₦1,800
  • 2 bottle of Oci gum ₦2000
  • 4 Shoe wet ₦800
  • 2 Super glue ₦1000
  • 4 pairs of Nora ₦2000
  • 4 pairs of Marco ₦1600
  • Total ₦27,600

Here are some of the pictures of the items I got at the market. I couldn't take many pictures at the store, but when I got to my store, I took more pictures of the items I purchased, like the ones in these pictures.

The price of items was high as expected, or should I say as it usually is during the festive season, but then I was aware it would be so, which made me go with extra funds in order not to change my list due to lack of funds, but then I was lucky to get some items at a cheap price compared to what they had been sold at before, so that kind of made my spending even.

That's about all I can say about my experience at the market and the price of each item. Above is one of the pairs of footwear we already made from the materials I purchased at the market a few days ago, and I did share the DIY process of the making process several hours ago.

While on my way home inside the tricycle, I saw a roadside fruit seller during some of our store hours. In the traffic, I decided to buy a pack of fruit salad from her. The fruit salad comprises of watermelon, pineapple, and cucumber, which I'm presently eating as I write this post.

As I bring an end to this write-up, I'd like to thank and appreciate @dswigle for her efforts in constantly keeping and encouraging market traditions through the Market Friday community, which usually gives us an opportunity to see various people's market experiences and traditions.

Thanks for reading through my blog post, have a blessed and productive day ahead.

Oh, no! Those are actually fruits? I thought they were materials for polishing or making the shoes.😂🤣
It was until I read through that I realised that I was wrong. Oh well.

It's so cool that you have an apprentice to learn from you and do most of the work now. It should be of some kind of relief. But at the same time, you'd nee ot be monitoring and guiding them; that along is work.

I am not sure if it's a thing that happends worldwide, but it's so wierd that it's during the festive seasons (time of so-called-love) that these things get really expensive. This would mean that your shoes may cost a litte more now.

Happy New Year in advance, man.

Smile they're indeed fruit lolz
Yea though they are apprentice but they're now good to some extent but like you said there's a need for monitoring and that's where the place of the person I employees come in. Though he also need monitoring.

It's funny, I thought I'm the only one who felt things ought to be cheap in the season of love rather than increases.
Thanks for stopping by.

Those sandals are very nice! Having a pair of handmade sandals or shoes here in the US is a very elite thing to do. They are always better made and last longer. Only the very well-off have that opportunity. You can see why I still find #MarketFriday fascinating.

I guess I didn't know that you kept the shop open and have two workers. What a smart idea. I hope it is all flowing smoothly. That is a huge responsibility and I hope it is keeping afloat and growing. But, for now, if it just keeps floating, it will be great!

Everything is expensive at this time of year, isn't it? My brother used to make handmade knives and he made a couple for me. They are honestly beautiful, and although, I have no use for them, I hold on to them for my son. They are actually hunting knives, which is funny as I have never been hunting. :) Thank you so much for being part of the challenge!

I try to let people know how much I appreciate their participation in #MarketFriday! Even though I get many on a weekly basis, each one is read and enjoyed. By now, you must know how much I enjoy learning about the world and how it is to live in your corner of it, and, make yours or mine better in any way. I have been given hints to make life nicer, and recipes to make dinner interesting. I find it interesting to compare, not by the world's standards, but, by how we find the quality of our life with different I enjoy learning more about you and hope you feel the same, that is why I find it important to take the time to read a couple of #MarketFriday posts and leave a genuine comment. It is important for a community to do this, learning about others, and getting to know each other. The fun is in getting to know people and making a positive contribution to community life. All this fun and money too. What is not to love? That is one of the reasons I joined Hive. How about you? :) I leave you with the guidelines. I hope you are having an amazing week!

Fridays are all about the #MarketFriday Challenge! Looking to take part in it? Here is how:

Rules of the Road to Join #MarketFriday!

  1. Go to the market, or anywhere that you pay money for a service. It can be a movie, an auction, or even a museum. Wherever money is exchanged for a service or product.
    Take pictures! Be creative!
  2. Tell us a little bit about the market or the event. What brought you there? What did you buy? How much did it cost? Was it expensive? Did it go up or down? A scroll of pictures with few words doesn't usually work.
  3. Post the pictures. Of course, you should tell a little bit about the ones you post, it is too difficult to guess about some.
  4. Use the MarketFriday Community Platform to post (#hive-196308) This is not required but appreciated.
PLEASE Drop the link into the MarketFriday comment section so I can find it!!
  5. Following me and reblogging the post would be appreciated, but not a rule, more vision for more views on the #MarketFriday posts!
    7. You must put #MarketFriday by @dswigle somewhere on your post.

As always, please remember! #MarketFriday loves you!

Happy New Year to you and yours!

Truely having an handmade pairs of footwear are always a smart idea for it quality, although I don't think it's as expensive as it's in the US, over here we kind of charge less.

Yea I actually kept the store because I wasn't too sure how I'll find life in the new environment, and I also don't want to run down when I already have loyal customer to regularly patronise me, although it isn't flourishing as it use to while I was there, but it's still yielding something.

Wow your brother most be gifted to make those knives, wish I can see how it looks, hopefully you son will find it valuable if he is the hunting type.

Thanks so much for your kind words, have a blessed new year.
