Hello everyone

If there is a temple visit not to be missed in Phuket, it's Wat Chalong! That's why today I propose you to discover this gem.

This temple is located 8 kilometers from Phuket town and 3 kilometers away from Chalong Bay. There is a spacious parking lot for vehicles and it's easy if you are lazy to drive to come with a mini van tour, a tuktuk (always negotiate the price before) or even by bus (much longer).

Wat Chalong can be visited for free, but as usual, I encourage you to participate in its existence by buying flowers, incense and/or candles or by using the donation box. It's above all a temple (do you remember Wat in Thai mean temple 😊) with monks who live there.

As for Big Buddha (see my post if you missed it) and any other religious place in Thailand there is a dress code and some rules to respect:

• You must dress appropriately to enter the temple (don't come in too short outfit or in swimsuit).
• Take off your shoes and remove your hat before entering a building of the temple.
• Respect the place, don't make noise and don't touch the various Buddha images.

สวัสดีคร้าาาาาาาาา..... วันเน้..... บัวจะพาเพื่อนๆ ไปเช็คอินที่วัดฉลอง เราไปกันเล้ยยยยยย..... วัดฉลองห่างจากตัวเมืองภูเก็ต 8 กิโลเมตร และห่างจากอ่าวฉลองเพียง 3 กิโลเมตรเท่านั้น ที่จอดรถก็กว้างขวางม๊วกกกกกก..... เตะบอลยังได้เลย 555 แล้วเข้าชมได้ฟรีไม่มีค่าใช้จ่ายใดๆ แต่ถ้ามีจิตศัทธาก็บุญด้วยการซื้อดอกไม้ ธูป เทียนได้ หรือจะหยอดใส่กล่องรับบริจาคก็ได้ หรือถ้าไม่สะดวก อยากจะไปไหว้พระเฉยๆ ก็ทำได้

Wat Chalong, officially named Wat Chaiyathararam and built in the early 19th century, is very famous in Phuket, it's a temple with a long history and is the most beautiful in Phuket.

Any Thai Buddhist living in Phuket or on vacation here must come to Wat Chalong and pay respects to Luang Pho Cham, one of the founding monks, for auspiciousness. Luang Pho Cham is also known with Luang Pho Chuang (his student) for having helped and cured (using their knowledge in herbal medicine) the inhabitants of Chalong during their fight against the Chinese tin miners rebellion (1876).

Many people have heard of the sacredness of Luang Por Cham in terms of healing, not only do the people of Phuket respect him and his sanctity, its reputation extends to Penang, an island in Malaysia 600km to the south.

วัดฉลองหรือวัดไชยธารารามมีชื่อเสียงมากในเมืองภูเก็ต เป็นวัดที่มีประวัติศาสตร์ยาวนาน และสวยงามมากในภูเก็ต เรียกได้ว่าใครมาภูเก็ตแล้วไม่มาวัดฉลอง เหมือนมาไม่ถึงภูเก็ต ส่วนใครที่เคยมาภูเก็ตต้องมาไหว้หลวงพ่อแช่ม เพื่อเป็นสิริมงคลแก่ตัวเอง และครอบครัว หลายๆ คนคงเคยได้ยินเรื่องความศักดิ์สิทธิ์ของหลวงพ่อแช่ม ในด้านการรักษามาบ้างแล้ว ไม่เพียงแต่ชาวภูเก็ตที่เคารพนับถือ ความศักดิ์สิทธิ์ของหลวงพ่อแช่มเท่านั้น ชื่อเสียงของหลวงพ่อแช่มแผ่ขยายไปไกลถึงต่างประเทศเลย ก่อนจะมีโควิดมีนักท่องเที่ยวชาวจีนจำนวนมาก เดินมามากราบไหว้ขอพร จะได้ยินเสียงจุดประทัดแก้บนไม่ขาดสายเลยค่ะ

The sanctuary is a very beautiful architecture of the Rattanakosin Era, it is enshrined as a Buddha image in the attitude of meditation.

The Rattanakosin Era started in 1782 until 1932 and it is known as Siam.

วิหารนี้เป็นสถาปัตยกรรมที่สวยงามมาก ประดิษฐานเป็นพระพุทธรูปปางสมาธิ

This sanctuary has 3 ways (on 3 sides) to get inside.

This is an oil lamp, used for lighting incense and candles.

The inside of the vihara, Sanskrit word meaning a Buddhist renunciation monastery, has also enshrined a replica of Luang Por Cham, Luang Por Chuang, and Luang Pho Kliang.

People flock to pay their respects, make wishes and delicately attach thin gold paper on and around the image of Luang Por Cham, Luang Por Chuang, and Luang Pho Kliang.

Would you like to pick up a fortune stick and try your luck?

Kau Chim of its real name and not Chi Chi Sticks as known in the West is a form of fortune-telling in Chinese tradition, it's usual to see it in the Buddhist temple in China, Thailand, Japan... It's a container with bamboo sticks, nowadays plastic is used instead of bamboo, on which a number is written.

it work as a Ask Me Anything:

• Ask for answers to the sacred oracles as for a wish in your head.
• Shake the container until a stick drop.
• Get the number written on it to find the answer in the form of a prediction.
• Take the prediction in the right box, the one with the number you retrieved.

และที่สำคัญคือนิยมมาเสี่ยงเซียมซีด้วย ส่วนวิธีการเสี่ยงเซียมซีบัวคิดว่าเพื่อนๆ คงจะคุ้นเคยกันอยู่แล้ว สำหรับสายชอบเสี่ยงทายทั้งหลาย บัวคิดว่าน่าจะมีทุกวัด การแปลก็เลยไม่ได้ลงรายละเอียด อธิบายให้แต่ฝาหรั่งที่เขาไม่เข้าใจ บัวก็ได้ลองเสี่ยงดูเหมือนกัน แต่อ่านแล้วรู้สึกหดหู่ ก็เลยวางไว้ที่เดิม

The small park of the temple in addition to being wonderfully arranged has places to sit and relax in the shade of the big trees.

ภายในบริเวณวัดก็ร่มรื่นม๊วกกกก..... รอบๆ บริเวณวัดจะมีต้นไม้ใหญ่หลายๆ ต้น คอยให้ร่มเงา เป็นที่พักผ่อนสำหรับใครที่เดินชมวัดจนเหนื่อย

this is the 60 meters tall Phra Mahathat Chedi Phra Chom Thai Baramee, the Chedi (stupa or pagoda if you prefer) of Wat Chalong. Built in 1998-2001, it is located at the back of the temple in a quiet and peaceful place.

พระมหาธาตุเจดีย์พระจอมไทยบารมีประกาศ เป็นพระมหาธาตุเจดีย์ขนาดใหญ่สร้างเมื่อ พ.ศ. 2541-2544 ตั้งอยู่ที่ด้านหลังของวัด มีทั้งหมด 3 ชั้น ชั้นแรกก็จะเป็นพระพุทธรูปปางต่างๆ มากมาย ซึ่งงดงามมากๆ ตามผนังก็จะมีภาพของพระพุทธเจ้าตั้งแต่ทรง ประสูตร ตรัสรู้ และปรินิพาน ซึ่งเป็นภาพวาดที่มีความสวยงามมากๆ บรรยากาศภายในเงียบสงบ และเย็นสบาย กายเย็นแล้ว ใจต้องเย็น ถ้าไม่เชื่อตามบัวเข้าไปชมด้านในเลยค่ะ

From the top floor you have a wonderful 360 degree view of the whole temple and the surrounding area, you can even see Big Buddha staggering from the top of the Nakkerd hill (see my post if you missed it).

การเข้าวัดก็มีข้อปฎิบัติ เราควรปฏิบัติตาม และเคารพสถานที่ ควรแต่งกายให้สุภาพเรียบร้อย ถอดรองเท้าก่อนเข้าไปภายในเจดีย์ ไม่ส่งเสียงดัง เพราะภายในเป็นที่ประดิษฐานของพระพุทธรูปมากมาย และไม่แตะต้องหรือสัมผัสองค์พระพุทธรูปเหล่านั้น

The first floor of Phra Mahathat Chedi is filled with an impressive number of Buddhas in different postures.

เป็นที่ประดิษฐานพระพุทธรูปปางต่างๆ มากมาย มองดูแล้วทำให้จิตใจสงบ เกือบบรรลุขั้นโสดาบัน (หยอกๆ 555)

วัดฉลองเป็นวัดที่บัวมาประมาณ 4-5 ครั้ง ได้มาอีกครั้งก็เพื่อเขียนโพสต์โดยเฉพาะเลยนะเนี่ย

On the side of the wall of each floor, there are paintings depicting the history of the Buddha's birth, enlightenment, and passing away which are extremely beautiful.

บริเวณบันไดทางขึ้น และทางลงก็จะมีภาพวาดประวัติของพระพุทธเจ้า ตั้งแต่ประสูตร ตรัสรู้ และปรินิพาน สวยงามมากๆ

The second floor of Phra Mahathat Chedi is also filled with an impressive number of Buddhas in different postures.

ชั้นที่สองก็เป็นที่ประดิษฐานพระพุทธรูปปางต่างๆ ด้วยเช่นกันค่ะ

On the third and last floor is the place where the Buddha's relics are enshrined.

It shelters a fragment of Buddha's bone coming from Sri Lanka.

ส่วนชั้นบนสุด คือชั้นที่สาม เป็นที่ประดิษฐานพระบรมสารีริกธาตุ ซึ่งประดิษฐานอยู่ในลูกแก้วใส

Time to enjoy the view from this last floor. On the left on the hill we can see Big Buddha.

วิวด้านบนสวยสุดๆ สามารถมองเห็นได้รอบวัดเลยค่ะ อากาศดี ลมแรง เย็นสบาย

On the left we can see the crematorium.

มุมนี้จะมองเห็นบ้านหลังสุดท้ายของทุกคน ที่ไม่มีใครสามารถหลีกหนีได้พ้น

Luang Pho Cham replica (Luang Por Wat Chalong) is a Thai-style wooden house with a high platform, it's a very nice Thai house decorated with beautiful Thai pattern wood carvings and a gable of polished bamboo.

Designed as a Thai pavilion with a beautifully carved teak body, it contains various antique furniture and appliances brought from the temple that are displayed.

It is an exhibition of a fake wax figure, a replica of the founding monks of Chalong.

Luang Pho Cham was a Phang Nga native (in the north, just past the island of Phuket on the land) born in 1827, he was ordained as a novice and a monk.

The sanctity of Luang Por Cham came about the time when Phuket was filled with Chinese mining mafia who wanted to seize Phuket and govern it. There was an attack with many victims among the villagers. The survivors and injured fled into the forest and some took refuge in the temple of Chalong to be cured.

Somme villagers have asked Luang Pho Cham to make amulets for morale and encouragement. Luang Pho Cham made Pra Jiad clothing (a type of armband used to give confidence and luck and now worn by Muay Thai). The Chinese mafia could not do anything against these villagers, which was their first victory. Later, all the villagers gathered together to fight the mafia until victory.

เตาเผาที่ตั้งอยู่ริมถนน เป็นเตาเผาสำหรับจุดประทัดค่ะ ผู้คนที่มาขอพรแล้วก็สมหวัง ส่วนใหญ่ก็จะแก้บนด้วยประทัดจำนวนหลายร้อยนัด หรือเป็นพันนัดกันเลยทีเดียว ดังนั้นถ้าเข้ามาภายในบริเวณวัด เพื่อนๆ ก็จะได้ยินเสียงประทัดดังเกือบตลอดเวลา แสดงว่าวัดที่นี่ศักดิ์จริงๆ คนส่วนใหญ่ที่มาขอพรก็จะสมหวังแทบทุกคน ยกเว้นบัว ไปขอทีไรไม่เคยได้เลย แง.....แง

This huge oven is used to explode the firecrackers of those who bought them to make their wish come true. When you arrive at the temple, you will hear the loud explosions of firecrackers almost all the time.

Chaithararam Temple is a chaptel build in architecture of the Rattanakosin Era too. A bouquet of leaves and swans in the Bai sema (boundary stones of the sacred area of an ordination hall) are scattered around the temple
