The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea

Help! I'm in a dilemma.

The story which you are about to read is the story of my life and my current predicament, my love story. My name is Richard and I'm the chief marketing officer in the company I currently work in. You see things weren't always this great.

Some few years back, I was an unemployed young man desperately in need of a job. I was living with my girlfriend Jane, who had to work two jobs just to make sure we stayed out of debt. It was on one of those days on her way to work when she heard about an opening in a company for the position of an operation manager. She quickly called me and told me to go give it a try. I quickly got dressed, dusted my credentials and moved.

When I got to the company, I got into the elevator and pressed the top floor. The elevator was about closing up when a lady pleaded from afar for me to hold the elevator for her. Other people in the elevator objected, it was obvious we were all there for the interview and we were running kinda late so I understood their anger when I refused to let go but instead held the elevator until the lady entered. She thanked and quickly apologized to the other guys, she had overheard them complaining on her way over to the elevator.

We got to the top floor and all stepped out. I asked her if she was also here for the interview but she just smiled, thanked me one last time before walking into one of the offices. The rest of us all sat down and waited patiently until it was time for us to get interviewed.

It finally got to my turn and I walked boldly into the office being used for the interview only to be shocked by who I saw sitting among one of the interviewers. It was the same lady I had held the elevator for. She was all smiles the moment she saw me. The interview started, questions were asked and answers were given. At the end of the interview, I noticed that even though she was the youngest there, she was respected by others, it was almost like she was their boss.

The next day I got a call that I had gotten the job. I called Jane to tell her the good news and she quickly left her place of work to come celebrate with me. Few weeks into my new job and I realized that the young lady was actually the boss, her father owned the company and then a few more months later I discovered something else, my boss was into me.

I had no idea how she felt about me until after my first promotion at work when she invited me over to dinner and made her feelings known to me. I couldn't say no because she was my boss and I loved my job and I also couldn't say yes because I had Jane whom I loved with everything in me.

My life started moving great. Me and Jane moved over to a new apartment, Jane quit both of her jobs and got herself a new job that wasn't as stressful as the other two. The pay was less but hey, I was there to support. My salary alone was enough for us to live comfortably but Jane wanted to work.

A few more months into my job and I was already going on business trips with my boss whose name was Erica. It was on one of those business trips that I had canal knowledge of her. It wasn't intentional, but it happened. I regretted my actions afterwards but then it happened again and again and again until I wasn't feeling the guilt anymore.

It didn't take Jane long to notice that something was right with her relationship, with her man. And then she found out about Erica. At first she was furious, but then she calmed down, then she said to me..

“If you want us to work, then you will have to quit your job and forget everything about it, you have to pick between me or that lady.”

Now the problem is, I don't want to quit my job or pick between both ladies, I love my job and loved them both but I have to make a choice, do I go for Jane, the lady who stayed with me when I had nothing or Erica, the lady who gave me everything..
