OLD BARN № 049

This lovely clapboard barn is located along a country road (Joyce Road) in Pickens County, SC (US) on a well-maintained piece of property. There is a row of trees along the roadside, and the only view of the barn is obtained by peeking through these trees at one point or other. The size and structure of the barn suggest that it was once part of a working-farm. The gambrel roof and hay-door indicate a perfect place for hay storage, while the large ventilation windows would have allowed heat to escape in the summer.

Old Barn 049 is very close to the property on which Old Barn 048 is located, as shown in the following screenshot from BING Maps. What fascinates me the most about this aerial view are the trees to the right and below Old Barn 049, which are seemingly planted in concentric arcs, with a lane in-between. Perhaps these are fruit-bearing trees and the lane is there for harvesting the fruit? And perhaps the trees were planed in arcs to make the best-use of the space that was there? Such a delicious mystery!

I have not been past this barn lately, but when I went to check the latitude and longitude for this post, I looked at the "Streetside View" in BING Maps and noticed that the barn has apparently gotten a facelift since I've been there. The white clapboard siding has been replaced with a fresh coat of red paint, and there is even an addition built onto the barn's left side, to house additional equipment or maybe a greenhouse (because the aerial view looks like there might be two skylights in the roof of the extension). Now I want to drive past it again and see the improvements that were made!

 😊

As always, another great looking barn, and I love the texturizing. Afraid I can't help explain about the tree structure though. Maybe it was aliens!

A superb image of this very interesting old barn @thekittygirl I love how the trees at each side of this picture create a protective frame for the barn.

I hope Old Barn 049 will survive many more years.

What a beautiful landscape, we can really make thousands of ideas about the location of those trees, nature always surprises us :,)

The trees may have been planted that way to plant them "on contour", an earth friendly and water conserving layout. Very groovy permaculture technique. Looks like a lovely farm from the air. I love that you even follow your barns over time.
