Jan 2023 checking of the Author vs Curation rewards: What do I think I have done right?

avatar

It's the end of the month again, and time to check on the progress of the account's HP accrual.

I do this every month since October 2022, and this has formed an important part of my self-appraisal for this account. You can read the previous edition here.

The chart below shows the 30 days figures for HP increment in Jan 2023. You can also notice from the orange line that I powered up to 10K from about 8700 early last month.

Screenshot 20230131 at 4.25.20 AM.png

As a good practice, I charted the progression of Author Rewards and Curation Rewards over the months below.

Screenshot 20230131 at 4.35.01 AM.png

A few points to highlight:

  1. Author Rewards did not increase noticeably on Jan 23. Perhaps a need to look at why my posts weren't earning the HPs.
  2. Curation Rewards increased by about 30%. Considering that my HP increased by about 13% on Jan 23, while the Curation Rewards increased by 30% in comparison, the ROI from that extra 13% is great.

The points above can be further digested.

Perhaps the full effect of the last 13% HP top-up had not been reflected, there is a need to observe the charts in the upcoming months. Likewise, the sweet jump in Jan 2023 could also be due to the aggressive top-up of HP from about 5K in December. These values show the trend, but I really need to let things settle for the next few months to see the situation more clearly.

In terms of author rewards, the increase is not substantial. A signal that I have room for improvement in this department. Maybe it's the tags, maybe I need to delegate HP to some accounts that reblogs, which I believe is important for getting votes from new readers.

Last reflection...

Is there a tool that can do this charting over months automatically? I am sure these values can be pulled from the API. I may need to try coding for it if I can't find one.

In any case, this is a good exercise if we care about our HP accrual.

P/S: This is not financial advice, and please do your own due diligence before investing.

If you read this far... and if you are a like-minded Hiver who is on the path to learning more about Hive and crypto investing, and if you like to be tagged when I write such posts, I welcome you to leave a comment below and let me know. We can form an alliance to support each other's growth.

curation rewards also increased because hive cost more if we compare vs december.
But its always nice to see extra 30%

This is the part that I am always puzzled. I thought I am counting in terms of HP, why should HP accrual be affected by its price?

Does it mean that we get more HP, everything considered equal, when Hive price is lower? !PIZZA

I think the higher the price of Hive, the more HP you receive in curation. If your account is worth more this month than last month, even if your HP didn't change, then the curation reward will be stronger this month. I could be wrong. I am often wrong, but I think that's why it's more difficult for small accounts to be able to upvote to a level that generates a reward. When Hive is low, those accounts can't get any curation rewards. Again, I could be wrong. Maybe someone else will let me know. @savvytester do you know the answer to this? If Hive is worth more then does your HP generate more than in a month when Hive is worth less? I.E., if HP stays the same, does the formula for curation rewards change based on the value of Hive?

I hope my reply to @methodofmad is enough to answer the questions! 😅

Regarding Hive accounts with small Hive Power, their votes become dusted if the total votes on the post or comment is less than $0.02 when the content is at the end of its 7th day from publishing time. 🤓 That's where #dustbunny or #dustsweeper can help users with low HP benefit from dust votes. 😏

It's true that the higher the price of HIVE, the higher the worth of your vote even if your current Hive Power (HP owned + HP delegated in - HP delegated out) remains the same. 🤓 The worth of a Hive account alone isn't a good basis of how much its vote will be, since several factors (such as the current Voting Mana, chosen Voting Power, and not to mention the current HP) must be taken into account. 😏

Isn't it more When Hive is low, those accounts can't get less curation rewards? !PIZZA

There's a minimum amount of HP needed to generate a large enough vote to get curation, if you are the only vote on a comment or post. As Hive goes up in value, the HP is able to generate a large $ vote. When Hive is low, then very small accounts can vote, but many of the votes will not generate any $$. It's called dust.

Oh I see what you mean now... Actually most of the accounts don't get to a vote of over 0,02 USD to get out of the dust zone... That's also why I'm not upvoting your comments. Probably nobody else will and my upvote will be in vain. Of course this doesn't mean that I don't appreciate your comment and less that I wouldn't appreciate your upvotes in comments, since they're over 0,02 USD and would pass the dust border inmediately without anyone else's upvote needed... !PIZZA

I use Dustsweeper and that upvotes on comments that are less than 0.02. That way if you do upvote, we both get a little dust. I am not asking you to upvote, but I wanted you to be aware that some of the comments will be automatically upvoted by Dustsweeper. And even an upvote that does not generate a monetary reward is appreciated. It shows that someone took the time to read the comment.

No worries mate, I don't think that it's bad to "ask" for an upvote; I actually think it's abd we'd "have to" ask for one... Now I know you're using Dustsweeper, no worries, I just don't want my vote go in vain. I'm doing a lot of automated votes, because I'd like to help as many as possible people to get upvotes and to grow on Hive, as well as to avoid that vote power gets lost by being at 100% and like this my vote power is getting lower all the time anyway... But like I said, I'll upvote as well your comments...

For sure, I've got also quite a lot of tipping tokens to give every day. If you like one in particular, just let me know !PIZZA (or LUV, LOL, PGM, BBH, !CTP,...?)

There is also a free Hive tipping token which is !HUG that can be tipped once a day without any requirement. 🤗 If you want to tip more HUGs, then you need to have 3 HUG tokens on your #HiveEngine wallet to tip twice a day, and 10 tokens to tip it thrice a day. 🤓 !PIZZA !CTP

It sounds like you really like the upvotes, particularly from tipping bots. 😅 Maybe there should be a way to "tip" upvotes by using a bot command that upvotes the comment (or post) instead of (or along with) sending tokens, and that would simply require you to have enough of a token staked. 🤔😏 !LUV !CTP

We don't automatically get more Hive Power when the price of HIVE is lower. 🤔 We can only get more HIVE (which can then be converted to Hive Power) for the same amount of fiat money or stable coins/tokens (such as HBD) when its price is low. 🤓

For example, you got a new Hive account then bought and Powered Up 1,000 HIVE into Hive Power when the price of HIVE was at $0.40 each. 🤔 When the price of HIVE goes down to $0.20, your HP remains at 1,000 (excluding delegations and author/curation/other rewards), but you will then be able to get twice as much HP for the same amount of money you spent when HIVE was at $0.40. 😏

You should have said "more Hive Power from rewards" to avoid ambiguity with your question. 😅

I think that it's just the same amount of Hive Power that is awarded when the price of HIVE changes. 🤔 It's only the HBD author rewards that change. 🤓 !LUV

The curation rewards shown in USD are paid in Hive Power (not liquid HIVE). 🤓 You curate using Hive Power, so it makes sense to compute the curation rewards in Hive Power, not HBD or USD. 😏

On your #Ecency frontend settings page, you can change the currency display of the total content rewards (both author and curators) on the Currency dropdown box on the Preferences section of the page. 🤓 !LUV !CTP

One of the possible reasons why rewards are shown in USD (or HBD depending on Hive frontend) is because Hive users want to see their author/curator rewards in fiat or stabletoken for an easy way to keep track of how much they are earning. 🤔🤓🤯😅 !PGM !CTP

I think the January power up to 10K and the curation rewards from it will be seen more clearly by the end of February. Just want to make the same remark as @methodofmad here.... I see that you comment a lot on our posts, but you're never upvoting my posts or comments. I'm also using dustsweeper and dustbunny. This means, your upvotes, even when they're small are not in vain. If in the end you wouldn't be here every day or at a certain time you'd miss out OR you don't have the time to go and check the posts of the people you'd like to support, please consider autovoting like I'm explaining in this post. Like this the smaller accounts help each other to grow... I don't mean that you have to stop manual curation, but in my opinion doing both is a good mix...

Here are the steps to see your #HiveVote followers after you login on the dapp and arrive on the dashboard: 🤓

  1. Go to the Fanbase page by clicking on the link with the same name on the navigation panel at the left of the page.
  2. Type your own Hive username on the Search for a fan box on the bottom of the Fanbase page, then click the Search button.
  3. Click the Show Enable Followers link.

After you follow the steps, you will arrive at a page where your "Fans" (Hive accounts which automatically upvote your posts) are listed. 😏

I think @young-kedar's posts typically have these three characteristics.

  1. Cover image includes the title. This makes it easy for people to read the title more than once. i.e. double exposure
  2. Linking to Leo glossary. This contributes to the SEO stuff and some curators like to see this.
  3. The use of section headings which makes reading easier.

Overall, it makes the posts look professional. Some curators upvote when they see details like these which signals effort.

And of course posting often helps. It's all about the law of averages. When you have more posts (within limits), there is a better chance of getting curated by powerful curators with trails of copy voters.

Not to forget that young-kader is a committed Hiver who comments regularly and always provides quality content to begin with!

I mean I know how to make a link on Hive, and I'm doing this quite often myself, like when I'm trying to convince people to start with (partial) automated voting !LOL; but my question is rather how to use these glossaries, and where to find what to link to?

The way its price is high in the last few days due to which the power of people has also increased and the value of their vote has also increased due to which this reward is getting more. As soon as the hive price is increase, the reward of curation will increase. This will greatly benefit both the investor and the user. Because the user works hard to get votes. I will also check my progress through this Tools every month.

You write the following:
Curation Rewards increased by about 30%. Considering that my HP increased by about 13% on Jan 23, while the Curation Rewards increased by 30% in comparison, the ROI from that extra 13% is great.
Doesn't that mean that the extra ROI is 30%-13%=17%?

In terms of author rewards, you said already yourself that you're attracting more public (you've called it "taking me more serious", which in my humble opinion is not what it seems - even though I hope I'm wrong here !LOL).
