Cafe-Style French Fries

Cafe-style french fries always pique my curiosity; I usually order them whether I’m at a restaurant or just stopping by a café for a quick cup of coffee. It feels so good to relax and enjoy some french fries—this dish is usually the safest bet when visiting a new café. Plus, here’s a little secret: french fries are also very affordable and are typically served with sauce.
I’m always searching online for recipes like this, and I found one that’s easy to make at home. I came across it on social media a while back.

This fried potato recipe doesn’t require many ingredients—just flour and salt—yet it makes for a fantastic dish that I think is definitely worth trying. Usually, when I make them, I dip the potatoes into a wet batter, which sometimes leaves the skin crispy but the inside undercooked. This method is different—the result tastes just like the fries you get at a café. The combination of potatoes and cornstarch creates an incredible flavor—a soft, tender texture on the inside paired with a crispy exterior while the potatoes are still hot. Once they’ve cooled, the texture becomes a bit mushy, but it doesn’t change the taste at all.

100 grams of cornstarch
½ teaspoon of salt
1 teaspoon of mushroom bouillon
Instructions
Peel the potatoes and cut them into pieces according to your preference. I use a serrated knife to make them look nice.

Then wash them until the water runs clear—I rinse them up to four times until the water is completely clear.

Next, boil the potatoes in boiling water for about 3 minutes.

Drain them, then sprinkle with salt and mushroom bouillon. You can actually do this while they’re still boiling—I forgot and ended up seasoning them after I took them out.

Next, once the potatoes are somewhat dry, coat them evenly with cornstarch until the entire surface is completely covered.

Then fry them until crispy and golden brown; use medium heat so they cook evenly.

Result

It’s truly a pleasure to see the perfect final result; the potatoes cooked perfectly, and the outcome met my expectations. Just yesterday I enjoyed some potatoes at a café, and they tasted very similar when eaten right after frying—they were twice as delicious: warm, crispy on the outside, and soft on the inside; everything blended together perfectly. I’m so happy I managed to make these café-style potatoes that I just discovered, and I regret not making them sooner.

The potatoes are served on a plate and best enjoyed dipped in chili sauce—they taste even better that way and are definitely delicious. I love that the potatoes are cooked evenly without any burnt spots, unlike when I first made french fries. By the way, if you use an air fryer, I’m sure the results will be just as delicious. Give it a try; I’m sure you’ll love it.
